UPCC Accepting Applicants for 2025 Building Trades Summer Camp

MARQUETTE, Mich.) – The Upper Peninsula Construction Council announced Tuesday it is seeking applications for the 2025 Building Trades Summer Camp.

In partnership with Upper Peninsula Michigan Works, the UPCC’s Building Trades Summer Camp gives high school students a six-week introduction to the skilled trades. Participants earn $13 per hour while gaining hands-on experience in construction activities.

“Skilled trades are in high demand, and these are high-paying, rewarding careers that offer strong job security,” UPCC Executive Director Mike Smith said. “This camp is about giving young people the chance to discover those opportunities firsthand.”

The program will be held in Gladstone. Students in grades 9 through 12 who live within a 45 minute driving radius from Gladstone are eligible to apply. Up to 30 students will be selected for the program, which will begin July 7 and end August 14. Students can apply here.

Requirements include:

  • Must be able to commit to the full six-week program

  • Must be an incoming high school freshman-senior

  • Must live within a 45 minute drive of Gladstone

  • Must have reliable transportation

Registration will remain open until May 1, 2025. Every student who applies will attend resume writing and interview skills workshops provided by UP Michigan Works. After completing the workshops, applicants will be interviewed, and finalists will be selected. Once hired, students will participate in a financial literacy workshop.

Students must also participate in a safety workshop with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration before stepping onto any construction site.
